current mood: excited
Today I went and visited Texas Wesleyan University. I've only driven by it once before with Andy so I was a little nervous of going up there on my own, well with Sami in tow. Anyways, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the school and the neighborhood have been awarded a grant to fix up the area. There are a lot of buildings and shops surrounding the school that have been abandoned for so long. They are still in the early process of cleaning it up but it is reminiscent of small town shoppes. Apparently they will be putting in a coffeeshop, a bakery and a bookstore for starters. As for walking around the campus I felt completely safe. It's crazy how different it seems just a few blocks away. The school just seems tucked away from the rest of the neighborhood. I've checked out their crime rate and it is surprisingly low.
My counselor was really nice and very informative. She gave me my evaluation worksheet and I really don't have much to take. There were 3 classes besides finishing up my Geology that she said I could try to finish at TCC but after checking the classes available for spring it doesn't look like they will be available as online courses that semester. So next semester I may just be taking Geology ll. Those classes may just have to wait til I get to Wesleyan. Oh and get this! Since my grades are good I qualify for a scholarship at around $4500 and since I'm a Phi Theta Kappa member I could get another $600. That would help out so much! Yey, grades!
So now all I have to do is finish this semester and apply in January! I'm so excited! I just can't believe I'm about to do this. I really never thought I'd go back school, let alone finish! I know I still have a long ways to go but just getting to the point of transferring and getting so close to getting my Associate of Arts lets me know that I've already come so far. And that I haven't quit and don't plan on it either. Anyways Andy wouldn't let me! Ha! He says he doesn't mind handing over the breadwinner title and taking on the stay-at-home super dad role! He's too cute!
